Nuggets Worth Knowing
- Scottsdale has real dark-sky rules. The city’s outdoor lighting ordinance favors shielded, downward-aimed, warm fixtures — good design passes review AND looks dramatically better than glare-bombs.
- 2700K or warmer outdoors. Warm light flatters desert stone and plants; cool white outdoors reads like a car lot and annoys neighbors (and sometimes the city).
- Moonlighting is the estate move: fixtures mounted high in mature trees, aimed down through branches — soft dappled light with invisible sources. Palo verdes and mesquites are perfect for it.
- Brass fixtures + quality connectors = a system that survives monsoons. The failures we service are almost always $2 wire connectors and pitted aluminum fixtures, not the LEDs.
- Size the transformer for phase two. Everyone adds zones later; a transformer bought with 30% headroom makes expansion a Saturday job instead of a rebuild.

Common Questions
Low-voltage or line-voltage for landscape lighting?
Low-voltage (12V) LED for nearly everything: safer around pools and irrigation, cheaper to run, and easier to adjust as plants grow. Line voltage still earns its keep for big patio fans and ramadas.
Will the lights survive monsoon season?
With wet-rated fixtures, proper connectors, and buried wire — yes. Most “dead” systems we service failed at cheap connectors, not the fixtures.
Can you work around existing pavers and mature landscaping?
That’s most of our Scottsdale work. We tunnel under pavers, hand-trench around root zones, and leave the yard looking untouched.
